What is Nonliving Stakeholders?

Nonliving Stakeholders is an umbrella project about the object-oriented perspective in a design practice.
The term “stakeholder” is commonly used in a design process as an individual or a group who is directly or indirectly involved in the action, service, or a system. The project regards the objects as stakeholders to rethink current environmental problems and the human attitude towards objects. The Container Union is a speculative agency to deliver the object’s voices into the real world through three types of realistic services.

The concept started by Sungmy Kim, as her Master’s thesis project in Transdisciplinary Design program at Parsons School of Design. Based on her root in South Korea and expertise in industrial design, her interests always lie in the relationship between humans and objects and designer’s social responsibility. For this project, she maximized her empathic ability beyond humans to approach environmental issues in a different way and to resolve wicked problems.
The goal of this project is to seek a new way to resolve climate change in many levels with diverse industries.
